No matter how much anti-spy ware or anti-virus software you have you will never be able to catch all of it. I keep two hard drives. C: drive is a the main boot up drive that i use for starting up. D: drive has all the important stuff in it (programs, music, pictures, video, documents, you name it). I keep C: drive as the main drive and make sure that if any virus or spyware gets on it i can completely re-format the drive in order to erase all the crap on it and start over and not lose anything important. So sometimes i have to start off with a clean version of windows and re-load everything.
