What is a creative design I can paint on my Wall?

Saturday, May 15th, 2010

I’m painting my room a light lime green and pink. The wall is going to be solid pink but I need a patter on my wall for the pink. It’s only going to be on one wall. I don’t want stripes, polka dots, stuff that’s ordinary. I want something fun and btw I’m thirteen and this has to last me a few years. I wanted to do my friends hand prints and then them sign their names but my parents won’t let me. Please give me some ideas. Thank you.

You could paint a tree. Cartoonize it and you can put birds on the branches and have each of your friends sign a bird. That way you still have that fun reminder of your buddies but it would also be a little more appealing to the eye.

How to Design Creative Coffee Breaks?

Monday, May 3rd, 2010

We are preparing a corporate innovation event and we are thinking of making the coffee breaks to be creative . Do you have any idea of designing the breaks to match our theme " Innovation In Practice"

Um…

Put out bottles of flavored syrup and have each person make a flavored coffee for another person? Some creative mix that will blow the other person away?

Um…

WOW… That is a hard one.

OH! When I went to the SASM Museum in Nebraska http://www.strategicairandspace.com/ over the holidays, they had these little blocks they used to build teamwork… I’ll BRB with a link.

Darn… I can’t find them… They were like lincoln logs and they had people build these shockingly complex designs out of them as team building exercises…

I can’t remember what they are called and they are not showing them on the website.

FOUND IT! Wikipedia is my friend!

They are called "Keva Planks"

The current traveling exhibit is Keva Planks. The exhibit focuses on using simple materials of wooden blocks to help children build spatial thinking and math skills. Kids and families can use creative thinking to build structures of simple or complicated designs.

You can have people group up and create the most complex design they can while having their breaks.

CAD – Creative Design

Saturday, May 1st, 2010

In modern design and manufacture Computer Aided Design (CAD) and Computer Aided manufacture (CAM) are becoming crucial to designers in allowing them to design and manufacture products more creativity and much more quicker than ever before which in turn saves them money and passes savings on to the consumer. This film compares a small mass-production jewellery company based in Birmingham utilising CAD and CAM, with the more distinguished Cartier using traditional methods and shows quite clearly how CAD/CAM have revolutionised the jewellery business with the entire design and manufacturing process being done via computer.

Creative names for interior design business?

Wednesday, April 21st, 2010

I am starting an interior design business & wanted to see what kind of creative names you could think of. It’s three women, three different perspectives, and will cover three different areas so we thought some sort of play on three would be fun but it doesnt have to be. Something creative but not "cutesy".

What mac laptop should I get if I’m mainly running Adobe Creative Suite Design?

Saturday, April 17th, 2010

I need to buy a laptop for college and I’m going to be studying graphic design, so obviously I’m getting a mac. But other than that, I’m pretty clueless as to what specific laptop I should get. I’m not exactly rolling in dough, so I’m looking for a computer that can comfortably handle Adobe Creative Suite that won’t kill my bank account.

Do not fall into the trap thinking that graphics design = Mac. That is not correct. Just because you are studying graphics design means you automatically have to use a Mac.

I’m a graphics designer as well and I handle all my work on a DELL.
Mac does not offer you much bang for your dollar right now. Mac laps top are all currently using outdated technology.

Go to Apple store, and you’ll see for yourself. Macbook or Macbook Pros are all running Core 2 Duo processor. That is an outdated technology. For 2000 dollars you get a crappy 15 inch Macbook Pro with 2.66GHz Core 2 Duo. That is an absolute RIP OFF!

Go to Dell.com instead and look at a studio 17 laptop. For just $1,014.0, you can buy an i5 Laptop with the same amount of RAM. Not to mention it has a 17.3 inch screen.

i5 is pretty good, but i7 is even better. They are both more efficient and runs even better than the out dated Core 2 Duo. The Dell laptop will run even faster than your average Macbook Pro.

You can also consider a studio 15 lap top. $1,049.00, you can customize it to have i71.6GHz. That’s a FOUR core laptop. It utilizes the latest technology and will last you much longer than an average Macbook Pro.

You will be able to run CS4 and even CS5 with absolute ease. Don’t fall into the Mac trap. When it comes to the better deal, get a DELL. Macs will rip you off without giving you as much power.

Sol Sender – Obama Logo Design Part 1 of 2

Friday, April 16th, 2010

Part 1 of 2

Creative director Sol Sender tells the story of conception and birth of the Obama 08 logo, including the strategy behind it, developmental concepts and finalist designs for the identity not chosen by the campaign. Sender, now a strategist with design agency VSA Partners (http://www.vsapartners.com) in Chicago, was creative director and principal of his own design firm, Sender LLC, when he was hired to create the campaign logo. In the fall of 2006, Sender and his team were engaged to do the work by MODE, a Chicago-based motion design studio with an existing relationship with David Axelrod, the Obama campaigns chief strategist. Obama 08 campaign took on design responsibility for the logo in mid-2007, and extended the identity across multiple applications.

What is the best software to get for getting started in creative Advertising prints and Graphic Design?

Friday, April 9th, 2010

I’m in Advertising and Public Relations and haven’t taken any of those kinds of classes. I want a heads up – I want to teach myself. How about Adobe Creative Suite 3? Any suggestions?

If you haven’t taken any classes yet, you might as well start with Adobe Photoshop, since it is the most popular. You will also find most tutorials on the topic, e.g. www.good-tutorials.com

Later, you can experiment with the other packages if you have time.
