Ad-Aware, Spybot Search and Destroy, and Trend Micro’s free anti-spyware scanner (on their website) are all good programs.

I use both Spybot and Yahoo Anti-Spy. They helped clean up my computer after a bout of spyware.

    Here is what i do.

No matter how much anti-spy ware or anti-virus software you have you will never be able to catch all of it.

I keep two hard drives. C: drive is a the main boot up drive that i use for starting up. D: drive has all the important stuff in it (programs, music, pictures, video, documents, you name it). I keep C: drive as the main drive and make sure that if any virus or spyware gets on it i can completely re-format the drive in order to erase all the crap on it and start over and not lose anything important. So sometimes i have to start off with a clean version of windows and re-load everything.

You would be amazed at how much better your computer works once you do this every once and a while, and even better, you arent worried about losing any important info.

One good program that i have found to be a usefull tool is Zone Alarm. It alerts me about ANYTHING that is trying to log on or send info over the internet. If i find it is trying to get on or send info or even is benign it will tell me, then i make the decision to either remove the program, delete the file or re-formatt my drive to leave it clean from EVERYTHING. I value all the money and time that i have put into my computer. I have 1400 songs and expensive DJ equipment on it and tons of pictures and memories along with several programs that cost from $600 to $1500 each. I make sure i have backups and i dont F*ck around when it comes to spy ware. I make sure the sh*t is GONE!!!

and if you have a wireless router follow these tips,

    1. Use WPA encryption (WPA-PSK) it’s less crackable then WEP.

    2. Make a passphrase that is upper & lower case and has some numbers thrown in there as well, again harder to crack.
some like mAkE1t5eCurE0rel53 and as long as possible.

    3. Use MAC access control so only you or authorized PC’s can connect (even if you do have encryption turned on)

    4. Turn off DHCP use static addresses.

    5. Turn off SSID (and change it) unless your card really needs it (some do)

    6. Change username/password of access unit front end

    7. Ensure you have the usual firewall enabled on your PC.

    8. Paranoia rules, turn WLAN off if your not using it :)

    one last tip
    control panel—administrator tools–services–messenger

    right clik on it
    stop the service
    then disable it
    save changes
